What is Andarine?

If you want to get the best possible physique, you need to get your training and diet spot on; there’s no easy short cuts to shred the fat and add mass.

However, if you have the basics bang on, you could find that certain supplements or drugs can help you to really take your bodybuilding to the next level.

Anabolic steroids are what most people think of first, but there’s a whole host of other drugs which are also very effective.

Andarine, also known as S4, is a Selective Androgen Receptor Modulator (SARMs) and can closely replicate the results of anabolic steroids without such harmful side effects. Here’s an overview of Andarine and what you can expect.

What are SARMs?

There’s a number of drugs which are classified as SARMs, Andarine being just one of them. Typically created for use in the medicinal field for the prevention and treatment of illness and disease, the bodybuilding market quickly discovered the potential benefits.

Andarine was created to treat muscle wasting in conditions such as HIV and cancer, as well as helping with osteoporosis and benign prostate hypertrophy.

The advantage that SARMs have over anabolic steroids is that they’re a lot more specific in their action. This means that they bind to the androgen receptor which is specifically for muscle and bone tissue. This allows protein synthesis to be increased without the bloating and other side effects which can otherwise be experienced.

Using Andarine

Typically administered in liquid form, Andarine has a very short half life which means that it’s usually taken in divided doses, up to around 75mg total per day.

It is usually considered to be better than steroids during cutting cycle, helping to get rid of any last lingering shreds of fat and creating a very defined appearance. It is possible to use Andarine for bulking but generally the extra mass created is fairly modest. However, these gains will be clean and can be easier to maintain in the longer term.

As well as helping to strip away fat and help with cutting, Andarine has the ability to help ramp up muscle strength, drying out the muscles at the same time. It’s this action which provides such a ripped appearance.

There is a slight androgenic effect but not sufficient to cause significant side effects. It will not cause virilization in women.

Because the androgenic effect is limited, you might find that PCT is not strictly necessary. However, most bodybuilders agree that it’s a good idea. If you choose to stack S4 Andarine with an anabolic steroid, then you should never skip PCT.

Finally, like many performance enhancing drugs, it’s not safe to chug back Andarine continuously throughout the year so during a cycle most athletes choose to take it five days out of every seven.
